Step into a luxurious, exotic and private oasis at this one-of-a-kind property perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Part of the exclusive residential and Four Season resort community on the 1400-acre Peninsula Papagayo, this incredible vacation home faces the wild Pacific and backs onto the 16th hole of the award-winning Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. Experience this five-bedroom exclusive home in a Five Star setting as a beach, golf and tennis getaway with friends and family. If you can tear yourselves away, you can also use it as a base to explore nearby, and justifiably famous, national parks.
After entering the gated community via a long private drive replete with ocean, bay and jungle views, open the antique carved doors to Casa Indigo and step into a central courtyard supported by 19th century marble columns from Rajastan. The courtyard, with its lime and grapefruit trees, is the heart of the house and in design and artifacts evokes Southern Spain and Morocco. Walk throughout the villa to take in the expansive views to the ocean from both shaded interior and al-fresco sitting and dining areas, or any of the six sunny terraces. Need to cool off? Take a swim in the pool or a dip in the attached, smaller wading pool perfect for little children. The pool area includes a simple wet bar, inviting you to linger with the sunset - a great way to end the day after rounds of golf, tropical excursions or beach time. From any of your terraces, prepare to not only enjoy the ocean, but the jungle and its many residents like howler monkeys, parrots, and other species.
Inside the home, you’ll find it was designed to be opened up completely to take advantage of the ocean breeze, but also that each room is easily closed to enjoy the A/C should it get too warm. While Peninsula Papagayo offers eight different restaurants and several bars for you to sample during your stay, Casa Indigo features a large, chef-grade kitchen, which can be stocked on request for your arrival. For entertainment, enjoy the use of Netflix in the TV room, WiFi throughout, as well as outdoor/indoor surround sound via our SONOS system. To tool around the Peninsula, you also have 6-person golf cart at your disposal.
Time for sleep? Casa Indigo has four large bedrooms, all with sitting areas and en-suite bathrooms, plus a separate and charming casita, allowing 10-12 guests to sleep comfortably. Upstairs, this includes two master suites with huge terraces, both with indoor and outdoor showers. One master-suite boasts an oversized alabaster tub and ocean views from even the indoor shower. Downstairs you will find one bedroom with a pair of twin beds and a Queen sleeper sofa perfect for kids. Another downstairs bedroom, which enjoys the relaxing sounds of the waves below, features two king-sized beds. The detached, private casita has a king bed, a mini-kitchenette, a terrace with jungle and ocean views, and an outdoor shower. Several of the bathrooms as well as the powder room feature hand-made Moroccan-style tiles.
For the design of the house, the owners turned to the reknowned Costa Rican architect Ronald Zurcher, who also designed the Four Seasons and numerous of the most important hotels and residences in Central America. The house is loosely inspired by the al Hambra, with a central courtyard, arched walkways and ceilings, fabulous handmade tiles and museum quality architectural antiques - columns, doors, carved wood panels, lanterns - collected by the owners over 30 years. The furniture and accessories are similarly curated - a mixture of antique, vintage and new from Morocco, Thailand, China, India, Indonesia, Central America and the U.S. One of the owners is a designer whose work has appeared in numerous shelter magazines, and the level of detail in the house is a reflection of that.
Owning Casa Indigo also includes access to the newly-refurbished amenities of Peninsula Papagayo including the Prieta Beach Club with its lovely beach bar and restaurant; two pools; oversized hot tub; world class workout facility; kids club; miles of hiking trails; and watersports. You can walk down to the beach club or take the golf cart through the property (10 minutes) soaking in more views of the Pacific, the jungle and its wildlife. In addition to the beach club, you will also have priority access to the Arnold Palmer golf course and the Peter Burwash International Tennis Facility. Also at your fingertips: fun excursions, grocery delivery, private chef service, jet skis, ziplining, surfboard lessons, tee times, tennis court reservations, fishing expeditions, scuba diving the list goes on!
